1953 Diamond TMC M62 5 Ton 6x6 Truck
The M62 is a 5 ton 6x6 wrecker truck, part of the M39 series of military vehicles. It's designed for recovering disabled or stuck trucks and lifting heavy components. The M62 features a hydraulic crane, front and rear winches, and other tools for recovery operations.
Up for auction is a 1953 Diamond TMC M62 5 Ton 6x6 truck showing 9,659 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This monster truck presents in fair condition considering it's a relic from 1953. If Hollywood is watching, this truck would be the ideal lead vehicle for the next Mad Max franchise film. It has an intimidated front end and one that few stood in the way of as this vehicle went into battle zones to retrieve smaller rigs.
Exterior
All in all, the olive drab green coverage on the truck and its components is not bad. There are areas where the latest coat is peeling and horizontal surfaces are fried from exposure. But the sides still shine and the tow rigging presents well. The massive front bumper is more of a battering ram and shows some scars of busting through fences or other obstacles and a large winch is accompanied by some of the thickest tow chains and J-hooks we've ever seen. The hydraulic lines, the cables, the crane components, all incredibly large and tank resistant heavy. The truck rides on 20-inch wheels on three axles and even carries a spare on the bed which has a floor of diamond steel plate.
Interior
More thick olive drab paint coats the inside and shines in some spots. In front of the driver are multiple instruction and warning plates including one warning of maximum MPH in each particular gear. The instrument cluster is in the middle, allowing a navigator to help monitor systems and that passenger also gets multiple spec plates in front of them. The floor has some rubber mats and bucket seats have cushion bottoms, one with cloth in good shape, the other with canvas that is torn.
Drivetrain
Up front is a 602ci inline six cylinder rated at 240 horsepower and receiving fuel through a 2-barrel carburetor. A 5-speed manual transmission is behind it with a 2-speed transfer case and power routed through the Timken double reduction axles front and rear. Big drum brakes are also found in the front and back.
Undercarriage
The truck carries a single exhaust system and stock style muffler while leaf springs that probably weigh more than your daily driver are equipped in both the front and rear.
Drive-Ability
There are no keys associated with this rig.
