1942 Dodge WC-51 ¾ Ton 4x4 Truck
The Dodge WC series were essentially built in two generations. From 1940 to early 1942, almost 82,400 of the 4x4 Dodge trucks were built — initially called the VC series, but the great majority, from 1941, in the WC series, and in more variants. Contrary to what Dodge's nomenclature suggested, the 1941 WC models were a direct evolution of the 1940 VC models, retaining the G-505 U.S. Army's Ordnance Corps Supply Catalog number.
Up for auction is this 1942 Dodge WC-51 ¾ Ton 4x4 truck showing 6,998 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck presents in very good condition and is configured as a staff car that includes a stowed table top for map display for officers and high ranking staff. The truck cranks but does not start.
Exterior
A fresher coat of olive drab green colors this rig with more shine than was likely new, but looks good and is adorned with fresh white graphics on each side. A robust grille stands tall behind an even more robust front bumper and a Bridge Classification plate is affixed to the grille. There's a jerry can mounted on each side and pioneer tools attached to the trunk lid in back. The khaki canvas top overhead is in very good condition and the 16-inch steel wheels are as well. Finally, a siren is mounted on the right front fender.
Interior
The clean interior begins with canvas covered bench seats front and rear and both are in good condition, with some staining noticed. The rear passengers can access a metal storage box and the expandable table top tucked in the back of the front seat. Up front, a three spoke steering wheel leads to the green dash with a row of gauges followed by a glove box. A bakelite knob tops the shifter which rises from the floor along with the handbrake and range selector. The floor wears a ribbed rubber mat.
Drivetrain
The truck is powered by a 230ci L-head inline six cylinder putting out 91 horsepower with the help of a 1-barrel carburetor and set into motion via a 3-speed manual transmission. 4.11 gears are houses in both the front and rear axles and drum brakes are used on all four wheels.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and leaf springs make up the suspension front and rear.
Drive-Ability
This handsome rig cranks but does not start.
