1947 Chevrolet Series 4100 Dump Truck

The Advance Design is a light and medium duty truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII. Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series. First available on June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the Advance Design model.

Up for auction is a 1947 Chevrolet 4100 Series dump truck in very good condition. This would fit right in at the next truck show and when room allows, the next car show. This truck currently cranks but does not start.

Exterior
Big and tall is not just a men's store, it describes this working rig, all decked out in bright red paint with a black running board, black 20-inch wheels, and bed sides that are topped in black, all providing a sharply contrasted profile. A massive front grille runs vertically at first then goes to horizontal bars up top, all in shiny chrome and flanked by round headlight with polished rings and bullet shaped housing. A black bumper leads the way up front and industrial sized mud flaps cover the back beside diminutive tail lights.

Interior
Simple black vinyl door panels include a map pocket and showing slight patina on each side include simple hardware with red paint framing the windows. A grain vinyl covered bench seat, also in black, is in very nice shape and the three spoke steering wheel leads to a instrument cluster with deco style white writing on a taupe background. The paint on the odometer digits is peeling so it is difficult to read. Knobs for heat and other functions are in the center of the red painted dash and the floor is covered with a rubber mat that surrounds the shifter, hand brake, and dump controller.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a relatively clean 235.5ci inline six cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed manual transmission that routes power to the big rear axle and 4.11 gears. Drum brakes are employed at each of the four wheels. The truck runs on a 6 volt system.

Undercarriage
A single exhaust system includes a stock style muffler and suspension is provided by leaf springs in the front and rear.

Drive-Ability
The truck cranks but does not start.
